AAEI Seeking Input For Its Annual Benchmarking Survey
After a brief delay, the American Association of Exporters and Importers has begun gathering information for its fourth annual Benchmarking Survey. "We generally try to release the survey during April so we can release preliminary results during our Annual Conference in June," said AAEI President Marianne Rowden: "This year's survey was a bit delayed because we added questions about the Centers for Excellence and Expertise."

The Benchmarking Survey "aims to be the most comprehensive survey of trade operations and compliance within the industry," Rowden said: "We really try to ask questions designed to develop profiles of trade compliance professionals, how companies are handling trade compliance and operations (e.g., where do most companies have trade report through, what trade issues do companies seek ruling requests from CBP, filing of disclosures, etc.), and most importantly, what metrics do they use to measure performance. We also include some questions for service providers."
Those taking the survey are entitled to a free copy of the full results, and AAEI provides a free highlights publication which compares a few results to previous years' results. It sells the full results for $100 to members and $150 to nonmembers. It includes such things as a salary and job title survey and information on how companies handle trade compliance and operations. AAEI also uses the results for Congressional testimony, regulatory comments and presentations to advise policymakers about trends in international trade, Rowden told us.
