State Department Names Foreign Terrorist Organizations

The State Department named one groups as Foreign Terrorist Organization:

  • Ansar al-Dine, aka Ansar Dine, aka Ansar al-Din, aka Ancar Dine, aka Ansar ul-Din, aka Ansar Eddine, aka Defenders of the Faith (here). The entity has also been named a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (here) Ansar al-Dine operates in Mali and cooperates closely with al-Qa'ida in the Islamic Maghreb, another designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, according to the State Department. The organization was created in late 2011 and has fought against French and Malian forces, including a 2012 attack in the town of Agulhok where 82 Malian soldiers were executed.

The Department also renewed the Foreign Terrorist Organization designation for Hizballah, aka Hizballah and other aliases (here).
