ITC Asks for Comments on Possible Tariff Cuts from EU Free Trade Agreement

The International Trade Commission is asking for input by June 18 on its newly initiated investigations into the probable economic effect on U.S. industry and consumers of eliminating tariffs on a wide range of products from the EU. The investigations were requested by the U.S. Trade Representative (see 13032801, and will be used to assist in negotiations for the U.S.-EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement, announced in March (see 13032105).

One of the ITC’s investigations will examine duty-free treatment for products in Chapters 1 through 97 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, while the other will focus on agricultural products. The ITC plans to submit its report, which will remain confidential, by Sept. 26.

The ITC also plans to hold a hearing in connection with the investigations on June 5. Requests to appear at the hearing are due by May 16.
