Port of Cleveland Applies for Reorganization, Expansion of Foreign Trade Zone
The Port of Cleveland-Cuyahoga Country Port Authority filed an application with the Foreign-Trade Zones board to reorganize under the Alternative Site Framework and expand its service area, according to a FTZ Board notice. The proposed service area under the ASF would include Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, and Lorain Counties, Ohio.

The reorganization would “[provide] the grantee with more flexibility for a minor boundary modification and [reduce] the approval timeline from 9-12 months to 30 days or less,” according to minutes of a Port of Cleveland Maritime Committee meeting where the proposal was discussed (here). ASF also sets a sunset limit that removes designations of FTZ sites if unused within a 3-5 year period, the committee said. FTZ Board approvals of reorganizations under ASF take about 9 months, it said.
