Census Discusses AES Fatal Error Response Codes 132, 140

The Census Bureau sent out AES Broadcast 2013047 as part of a series of monthly educational broadcast messages on fatal errors in the Automated Export System. This month Census is highlighting AES error codes 132 (Port of Export Must Be A Road Port) and 140 (Port of Unlading Unknown). Fatal Error Response Code 132: Port of Export Must Be A Road Port

Reason: The Port of Exportation Code reported is not allowed for road shipments.

Resolution: The Port of Exportation Code reported must accommodate the mode of transport indicated in your shipment. See Appendix D , Export Port Codes for a list of acceptable Port of Exportation Codes and their corresponding modes of transportation. Verify the Port of Exportation Code and Mode of Transportation Code combination, correct the shipment and resubmit.

Fatal Error Response Code 140: Port of Unlading Unknown

Reason: The Port of Unlading Code reported is not valid in AES.

Resolution: The Port of Unlading Code must be valid in AES. You must report a valid Port of Unlading for all vessel shipments and for shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico. See Schedule K, Classification of Foreign Ports by Geographic Trade Area and Country, for a list of acceptable Port of Unlading Codes for vessel shipments. See Appendix D, Export Port Codes, for a list of acceptable codes for shipmnets between those two countries. The foreign port or unlading is the code in terms of Schedule D, Classification of CBP Districts and ports for shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Verify the Port of Unlading Code, correct the shipment and resubmit.
