APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Sept. 25-27

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Sept. 25-27 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Animal Product Manual: The following changes were made to the Animal Product Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections. The specific changes are listed below.

Appendix H List of Veterinarians

  • Table H-1-2 PPQ-AQI-VMOs - Dr. Benoit's contact information was updated

Plants for Planting Manual: The Plants for Planting Manual (here) was updated, transmittal 09/2013-23, to revise requirements or authority. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each updated page, are as follows:

  • Page 4-134: Deleted NAPPRA from Cunninghamia spp. requirements or authority column
  • Page 4-396: Deleted NAPPRA from Pterocarya spp. requirements or authority column
  • Page 4-467: Deleted NAPPRA from Trectona spp. requirements or authority column
  • Page 4-474: Deleted NAPPRA from Tilia spp. requirements or authority column

CITES Timber Manual: The CITES Timber Species Manual (here) was updated, transmittal 09/2013-32, to revise Protected Plant Permit procedures. Revisions (indicated by a black change bar on each revised page) are as follows:

  • Page 2-84: Revised the procedures for CITES imports lacking a valid Protected Plant Permit
  • Page A-15: Revised the instructions for PPQ Form 621 and added a cross-reference for CBP and a cross-reference for PPQ
  • Page A-17: Revised the Protected Plant Permit instructions and added a cross-reference for CBP and a cross-reference for PPQ

Chiapas Papaya Orchards: The list of approved papaya orchards in Chiapas, Mexico (here) was updated. Two orchards have been added and one has been removed.
