APHIS said adequate barriers exist at the port that would prevent the introduction of pests in the U.S. should they escape from a shipment of fruits or vegetables before undergoing cold treatment. Although most imported fruits and vegetables that require cold treatment have it done while in transit to the U.S., APHIS also allows treatment at agency-approved cold treatment facilities in either the country of origin or after arrival in the U.S., it said. Approval of cold treatment at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport takes effect Nov. 25.
