APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Dec. 19

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Dec. 19 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Animal Product Manual: Changes were made to the Animal Product Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections. Specific changes and corrections are listed below.

Chapter 3-8 Live Animals and Related Material

  • Table 3-8-2 Live Animals and Related Material NOT Authorized by a VS Permit - language has been corrected
  • Table 3-8-11 Amphibians, Aquatic Animals, and Reptile Materials - language has been corrected

Chapter 3-11 Fresh Poultry or Fowl Meat or Meat Products

  • Figure 3-11-1 Approved Mexican Poultry Processing Plants - TIF Establishment 500 has been added

Chapter 3-13 Fresh (Chilled or Frozen) Swine Meat/Meat By-Products

  • Figure 3-13-5 APHIS-Approved Italian Prosciutto (Ham) Slicing Plants - plant number H8C6Q has been deleted
  • Figure 3-13-7 APHIS-Approved Mexican Swine Processing Plants, Fresh Swine Meat - TIF Establishment 500 has been added

Appendix H List of Veterinarians

  • Table H-1-2 PPQ-AQI-VMOs - contact information for Dr. Simms has been updated

Miscellaneous and Processed Products: The following changes were made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Product Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections. The individual changes are listed below.

  • NEW Table 3-24 Beans (fresh, precut) into continental U.S. port ONLY - information regarding the importation of beans from Jordan has been added

FAVIR and Fruits and Vegetables Manual: The Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) and the FAVIR database (here) were updated. There were several reasons for the update:

  • Update the list of registered greenhouses for peppers in Arava Valley, Israel
  • Add the commodity French bean to the list of admissible commodities from Jordan [APHIS Docket 2012-042] All import requirements are in the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual. The commodity is in FAVIR and the F&V Manual for cross referencing purposes only.
