APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Oct. 17
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Oct. 17 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual: The following changes have been made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information. The specific changes are listed below.
Chapter 3 Reference
- Table 3-131 Fresh, cut fruit (page 2 of 3) - NEW row has been added beneath "Processed in Mexico" entry
- Table 3-141 Soil and rocks locator - "Soil (as such)" has been added to the first cell in the second column (And including:)
- Table 3-142 Soil (as such) and related materials (including live rock and quarry products) - title of APHIS document in footnote #1 has been changed; hyperlink has been updated
- Table 3-143 Soil (as such), clay, sand (OTHER THAN clean beach sand, clean desert sand, or clean river sand), or silt LACKING a permit or NOT moving to an approved soil laboratory - footnote indicator #4 has been added after "CONSULT Web site" in second and fifth cells in the fourth column (Then:); title of APHIS hyperlinks in footnotes #1 and #2 has been changed and hyperlinks have been updated
FAVIR and Fruits and Vegetables Manual: The FAVIR database (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) have been updated to add the edible flowers of chufle, chipilin, izote, and the leaves of pacaya to the list of admissible commodities from Guatemala [Docket No. APHIS-2014-0021; effective October 16, 2014]. In the manual, changes are indicated by black change bars in the left margin and are located on pages 3-131 through 3-133.
