APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Nov. 21

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Nov. 21 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Plants for Planting Manual: The Plants for Planting Manual (here) has been updated, 11/2014-31, to add a temporary measure for Solanum tuberosum (seed potatoes) from Prince Edward Island pending issuance of a Federal Order. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page, are as follows:

  • Page 2-13: Added the requirements for all propagules except seeds of Solanum tuberosum from Canada (previously in Chapter 4); added the new temporary measure pending issuance of the Federal Order for Solanum tuberosum (seed potatoes) from Prince Edward Island
  • Page 4-452: Added cross-references to see page 2-13 for all propagules except seeds of Solanum tuberosum from Canada and Prince Edward Island

Canadian Border Manual: The Canadian Border Agricultural Clearance Manual (here) has been revised to specify requirements for seed potato imports from Prince Edward Island (PEI) due to the possible presence of Synchytrium endobioticum, the causative agent of Potato Wart (PW) pending the issuance of a Federal Order.Changes, indicated by black change bars in the left page margin, are on page 3-2 of Chapter 3: Plant.
