CE Retailers Add Appliances, Cooking Gadgets to Super Bowl Sale Pitches
Online ads for Super Bowl TVs were going strong Tuesday, with shipping deadlines rapidly approaching. New York area retailer P.C. Richard, which took a brief respite Monday from TV ads to hawk appliances and snow shovels ahead of blizzard warnings that didn’t materialize for most of its target market (see 1501260055), reached out early Tuesday to resume pitching its buy-one-get-one TV deal that gives buyers Samsung 65-inch and 40-inch TVs for $1,498. Under the subject line “Big Storm, Big Game,” P.C. Richard told consumers there’s “still time to get your big screen!”

P.C. Richard is also giving away a 32-inch Samsung TV with the purchase of a 60-inch Samsung model for $1,198, a savings of $750, and a 40-inch TV with the purchase of a 75-inch unit for $2,498, for savings of $1,200. Other sale items included 4K Ultra HD TVs: A Samsung 55-inch is selling for $998, down from $1,499; a JVC 65-inch was down to $1,498 from $1,999; and an LG 60-inch was chopped by $1,001 to $1,498, the ad said.
P.C. Richard linked sale-priced AV furniture to the Super Bowl, with Tech Craft TV stands cut by half to $149 and $199. It encouraged shoppers to “relax and watch the big game” on Human Touch massage chairs, cut by half to $499. P.C. Richard is also passing on a Bose promotion of 10 percent off on a Cinemate home theater speaker system to $539.
Abt Electronics tied several categories to the Super Bowl, in its email promotion Tuesday. Savings of $1,500 on Sony TVs were at the bottom of the pitch page. The retailer, which has a storefront in Chicago and a national e-commerce business, may not be able to guarantee delivery before Sunday’s game. A live chat specialist offered to get a quote from a freight company for expedited shipping, but we declined. So instead of pushing TVs, Abt highlighted its “Gourmet Shop” in its Super Bowl email. A female model wearing a football jersey and holding a football in a kitchen setting led off the ad, which includes listings for a panini maker, blender, slow-cooker, deep fryer, popcorn maker and food processor.
Walmart offered the 60-inch Sony KDL60R510A 1080p HDTV for $699 plus $4.97 standard shipping for arrival by Thursday, according to the website. Rush one-day shipping was available for $90.97.
Sears pitched customers in an email Tuesday bidding them to “take your team to the top” with a landing page featuring Sony TVs and home theater systems, iPads, furniture for watching the game, a recliner, entertainment centers, George Foreman grill, beverage center, blender and Beats by Dr. Dre portable speakers. The Sony KDL60R510A was $100 more at Sears than at Walmart. A blurb on the Sears website told us to ask about price match, which we did. We were told by a live chat specialist that the Walmart price couldn’t be matched because it’s sold by a third party: Sony Electronics. We wouldn't be able to get the TV from Sony until Feb. 10, he said.
