APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for March 8

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes March 8 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Animal Product Manual: The following changes have been made to the Animal Product Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections:

Chapter 3-10 Hides, Skins, and Capes

  • Page 3-10-7 second paragraph - "CBP" has been added
  • Table 3-10-9 Untanned Hides, Skins, or Capes of Ruminants and Swine from a Region of Origin Known to be Affected with FMD and Pickled in Salt Solution Containing Mineral Acid - language in footnote #1 has been revised

Chapter 3-17 Ruminant Products

  • Table 3-17-31 Fresh (Chilled or Frozen) Ruminant Meat (Bone-In or Boneless) from a Country Known to be Affected with FMD ONLY OR at Negligible Risk for FMD - last row has been added to the table

Miscellaneous and Processed Products: The following changes have been made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections:

Chapter 1 Introduction

  • Page 1-3 under Examples of Articles Covered in the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual heading - FORMER Table 1-1 has been deleted and replaced with new heading and accompanying paragraph
  • Page 1-4 under What the Manual Does NOT Cover heading - "whole" has been added to the third bullet

Glossary

  • Page Glossary-7 - definitions for "fresh, cut fruit," "fresh fruit salad," and "fresh fruits and vegetables" have been revised
