  • Canada files launches WTO complaint against U.S. duties on supercalendered paper. The Minister of International Trade Chrystia Freeland announced that Canada filed a request with World Trade Organization to challenge the U.S. countervailing duties on supercalendered paper from Canada. (here)
  • Update on NAFTA and Mesa Power Group case under Chapter 11. The Government of Canada welcomed the North American Free Trade Agreement arbitral tribunal decision on Mesa Power Group LLC’s case under NAFTA Chapter 11. The tribunal has dismissed Mesa’s claim and confirmed that Canada was in compliance with its NAFTA obligations (here).
  • Import Prohibitions and requirements for commercial importers of aquatic species and for travelers under the Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations. The Canada Border Services Agency has issued Memorandum D19-8-5 which provides guidelines concerning importation of aquatic species, relating directly to the supportive role of the CBSA at the border with respect to the Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations (here).
  • Tourism spending for the fourth quarter 2015. Statistics Canada has reported that tourism spending in Canada rose 0.3% in the fourth quarter after increasing 1.0% in the previous quarter. (here)
  • Product Recalls. Black Diamond recalls Black Diamond Brand Carabiners manufactured in the United States (here), Black Diamond recalls Black Diamond Brand Nylon Runners manufactured in China (here), The Manhattan Group LLC recalls Busy Loops Table Top Toy manufactured in China (here), Toshiba of Canada Limited recalls Panasonic Lithium Ion Battery Packs manufactured in China and Japan (here).
