FDA Issues Draft Guidance on Enforcement of Inorganic Arsenic Content in Infant Rice Cereal

The Food and Drug Administration is issuing a new draft guidance document on allowable levels of inorganic arsenic in infant rice cereal (here). Under the proposed guidance (here), the agency would set an “action level” of 100 µg/kg or 100 ppb for inorganic arsenic, sampling shipments with at least that much total arsenic in order to determine inorganic arsenic content and whether enforcement is necessary. Comments are due July 5.
