  • Canada-China free trade agreement exploratory talks. Officials from both Canada and China are expected to meet next month in Beijing to begin exploratory talks towards a free trade agreement, according to The Globe and Mail (here).
  • Government of Canada proposes new rules to strengthen food safety. The Government of Canada is launching public consultations on proposed new rules to strengthen food safety. The new proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations would better protect Canadian consumers by putting a greater emphasis on preventing food safety risks for all foods imported into Canada or sold across provinces. The regulations would also apply to foods prepared for export (here).
  • Application of discounts to value for duty. The Canada Border Services Agency has issued Memorandum D13-4-10, which outlines and explains the treatment of discounts in determining a transaction value under section 48 of the Customs Act (here).
  • Product Recalls: HAMCO recalls Nautica hooded bath robes manufactured in China (here), for fire and burn hazards.
