- Brazil requests dispute consultations with Canada over alleged aircraft subsidies. Brazil on Feb. 8 requested WTO dispute consultations with Canada, accusing the country of unfairly subsidizing Canadian domestic aircraft manufacturer Bombardier, the WTO announced (here). If consultations don't resolve the issue within 60 days of the request for consultations, Brazil may request adjudication by a WTO dispute settlement body.
- Indonesia appeals WTO panel ruling on EU dumping duties on fatty alcohol. Indonesia filed a notice of appeal on Feb.10, 2017, in the case “European Union – Anti Dumping Measures on Imports of Certain Fatty Alcohols from Indonesia” (DS442), the WTO announced (here).
- Azevedo visits India. WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo during a meeting of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in New Delhi on Feb. 9 drew attention to discussions on agriculture issues and the facilitation of services trade, where India has been playing a leading role in discussions in Geneva, and pledged his support to help advance this work, according to a WTO statement (here). During his visit, the Azevedo met with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as well as representatives from the private sector and experts across a range of sectors, including agriculture.
- Items proposed for consideration at the next meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body. The WTO Secretariat has circulated a meeting notice and list of items proposed for the next meeting, on Feb. 17, 2017, of the Dispute Settlement Body, which consists of all WTO members and oversees legal disputes among them, the WTO said (here).
- Advanced course ends for chairs of National Committees on Trade Facilitation. An Advanced Course for the chairs of National Committees on Trade Facilitation took place from Jan. 30 to Feb. 10 at the WTO headquarters to help prepare the participants for the implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), the WTO said (here). It was attended by 23 government officials from 20 French-speaking countries and from the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).
