approved the recommendations during a March 8 conference call. Express Association of America Executive Director Mike Mullen successfully pushed that the phrase “government-wide” be added to ACSCC’s recommendation for NAFTA renegotiations to cover “trusted traveler/trusted trader” programs for NAFTA negotiations. The ACSCC also accepted Mullen’s suggestion to write in a request for Ross to share the recommendations with the USTR, in addition to the Transportation, Labor and Defense secretaries. One of the main bullet points in the recommendations calls for the U.S. to craft policy allowing it to “win at trade,” so sending the list to USTR makes sense, Mullen said. ACSCC also voted to send an introductory letter to Ross with minor revisions (see 1703030040). ACSCC Chairman Rick Blasgen said the committee’s NAFTA Task Force is working on recommendations for specific areas Ross should cover in NAFTA renegotiations, but added that they are not ready for release. Inside U.S. Trade recently reported (here) that Ross is aiming for around March 15 to submit its formal notice for NAFTA renegotiations to Congress.
