  • ICC and WTO launch ‘Small Business Champions’ initiative and open call for proposals. A joint effort to facilitate participation by smaller companies in international trade was launched Aug. 16 by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Roberto Azevedo, and the Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), John Danilovich. The initiative, titled “ICC-WTO Small Business Champions,” will provide a platform for companies and private sector organizations around the world to propose innovative, practical ideas designed to encourage micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to do business across borders (here).
  • Ukraine launches safeguard investigation on sulfuric acid and oleum. On Aug. 18, Ukraine notified the WTO’s Committee on Safeguards that it initiated on Aug. 10 a safeguard investigation on sulfuric acid and oleum (here).
  • WTO issues panel report regarding Indonesian duties on certain iron or steel products. On Aug. 18, a WTO dispute panel issued a report in the cases brought by Viet Nam and Chinese Taipei in “Indonesia — Safeguard on Certain Iron or Steel Products” (DS490 and 496) (here).
