- CBSA issues statement of reasons for certain silicon metal. The Canada Border Services Agency has terminated the dumping investigation with respect to certain silicon metal exported to Canada from Brazil by RIMA Industrial S.A., and from Norway by Elkem AS. The CBSA also terminated the subsidy investigation with respect to certain silicon metal exported to Canada from Thailand by Sica New Materials (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and certain silicon metal originating in or exported from Thailand by all other exporters. CBSA made a final determination of dumping with respect to certain silicon metal originating in or exported from Brazil, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia and Thailand, and a final determination of subsidizing of such goods from Brazil, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Norway.
- CETA Rules of Origin. The Canada Border Services Agency Oct. 18 issued Memorandum D11-5-5, which describes the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) Rules of Origin.
- Rules of origin respecting the General Preferential Tariff and Least Developed Country Tariff. The Canada Border Services Agency has issued Memorandum D11-4-4, which outlines amendments to the guidelines for the determination of the origin of goods for purposes of the General Preferential Tariff (GPT) and Least Developed Country Tariff (LDCT) treatments.
- NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2017 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level (TPL) utilization rate for imports and exports.
- Product Recalls: Dollarama L.P. recalls Little Live Pets Lil’ Frog Lily Pad manufactured in China, for chemical and injury hazards; BSH Home Appliances Corp. expands recall of various dishwashers manufactured in the U.S. and Germany, due to fire hazard; Kids Preferred, LLC recalls Carter’s Lamb Waggy and Guess How Much I love You Nutbrown Hare Waggy wind-up musical plush toys manufactured in China, for choking hazard.
