The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of April 18 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • International transactions for February 2018. Statistics Canada reports that foreign investment in Canadian securities totaled $4 billion in February, down from $5.6 billion in January. The result is that international transactions in securities generated a net outflow of funds of $2.4 billion from the Canadian economy, a third consecutive monthly net outflow of funds.
  • Guidelines for commercial air carriers for processing of prescribed traveler information. The Canada Border Services Agency issued on April 17 Memorandum D2-5-11, noting revisions to provide more precise policy direction to commercial air carriers and clarifications as to responsibilities. It outlines the CBSA requirements and administrative policies regarding the provision of prescribed Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) information with respect to persons being transported to Canada by commercial air carriers.
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2016 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
  • Product Recalls: Medline Canada Corp. recalls Remedy Essentials Foaming Cleanser manufactured in the United States, for bacterial contamination; Loonie Bin Enterprise Inc. recalls Baby Toys Mini-Tambourine manufactured in China, for choking hazard; Groupe Rossignol Canada Inc. recalls 2017-2018 LOOK Pivot Ski Bindings manufactured in France, for fall hazard.
