The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of May 25 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • CITT initiates expiry review for carbon steel welded pipe from China. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal initiated May 24 an expiry review of its order made on Aug. 19, 2013, in Expiry Review No. RR-2012-003, to determine if the continued or resumed dumping and subsidizing of certain carbon steel welded pipe from the China are likely to result in injury. On Oct. 22, 2018, the Canada Border Services Agency will determine if there is a likelihood of resumed or continued dumping and/or subsidizing. In the event of a positive determination, CITT will determine, on April 1, 2019, whether the continued or resumed dumping and/or subsidizing are likely to result in injury.
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2018 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
  • Product Recalls: Deere & Company recalls John Deere front loader manufactured in the United States, for injury hazard; Ikea Canada recalls SLADDA bicycle manufactured in China, for fall hazard; Ten Thousand Villages Canada recalls Choo-Choo Train and Blocks Set manufactured in Sri Lanka, for choking hazard.
