Canadian Government Notices as of May 30

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of May 30 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Number of Canadian enterprises exporting goods abroad increases in 2017. Statistics Canada reports that the number of Canadian enterprises exporting goods abroad rose by 191 firms in 2017 to 43,480. Canadian enterprises exported $483.6 billion worth of goods in 2017, up $30 billion from 2016. Small and medium enterprises accounted for 54.4% of the increase, mainly from firms in the energy sector, it said.
  • Cross-border currency and monetary instruments reporting. The Canada Border Services Agency issued an update to Memorandum D19-14-1, which explains the legislative and regulatory provisions, guidelines and procedures associated with the requirement to report to the agency the physical cross-border movement of currency or monetary instruments. Briefly, the update incorporates the most current terminology, as well as department names and addresses. This update also corrects the translation inconsistencies between the English and French versions.
  • Product Recalls: Stroller Boutique recalls Anex Sport Stroller manufactured in Poland, for fall hazard; Under Armour Inc. recalls Yard Low DT and Highland Yard DT baseball cleats manufactured in Indonesia, for injury hazard to wearer while running; Rona recalls Marroco patio dining set manufactured in Vietnam, for fall hazard.
