The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of Aug. 31 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Canadian Minister Jim Carr travels to Israel to promote renewing trade agreement. Minister of International Trade Diversification Jim Carr will travel to Israel and the West Bank Sept. 2-6. He will start the trip in Tel Aviv, where he will meet with Eli Cohen, Israel’s minister of economy and industry, to discuss how Canada and Israel can work to modernize the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement.
  • Notice of initiation of expiry review for certain unitized wall modules from China. The Canada Border Services Agency on Aug. 27 initiated an expiry review of its finding made Nov, 12, 2013, concerning the dumping and subsidizing of certain unitized wall modules originating in or exported from the People’s Republic of China. As a result of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal’s expiry review, CBSA initiated its expiry review to determine whether the expiration of the finding is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping and/or subsidizing of the subject goods from China. It will make a determination no later than Jan. 25, 2019, and issue a Statement of Reasons by Feb. 8, 2019.
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2018 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
  • Product Recalls: Great Canadian Dollar Store recalls lobster plush toys manufactured in China, for choking hazard; Jean Coutu Group recalls ibiZ portable USB wall chargers manufactured in China, for fire and burn hazards; PetSmart Canada recalls All Living Things reptile strip light fixture manufactured in China, for fire and burn hazards; ELEMENT recalls boys’ jackets with waist drawstrings manufactured in China, for entanglement hazard.
