- Cheese tariff rate quota for CETA. Global Affairs Canada issued a notice Oct. 1 informing importers of the policies and practices pertaining to the administration of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) industrial cheese tariff rate quota, including the allocation, underutilization, return, and transfer policies. Under CETA, the agreement between Canada and the European Union and its member states, Canada agreed to establish a TRQ of 1,700,000 kilograms for EU industrial cheese imports (not for retail sale, in bulk), used as ingredients for further food processing (secondary manufacturing). An import permit issued by Global Affairs Canada is required for shipments of cheese to enter Canada. Import permits are issued to allocation holders under the CETA industrial cheese TRQ, which is administered by Global Affairs Canada.
