Canadian Government Notices as of Jan. 11

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of Jan. 11 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • CFIA’s Safe Food for Canadians Regulations become effective Jan. 15. The Canada Border Services Agency on Jan. 8 issued Customs Notice 19-01, which advises importers that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Safe Food for Canadians Regulations enter into force on Jan. 15, 2019. The SFCR will apply new requirements to businesses and individuals importing food, including non-alcoholic beverages, into Canada. Once the SFCR is fully in force, commercial importers will require a SFC license to import food and non-alcoholic beverages. The SFC licence requirement will be implemented in three phases.
  • Vietnam added to the departmental consolidation of the customs tariff. The Canada Border Services Agency on Jan. 10 issued Customs Notice 19-02, providing notice that Vietnam has ratified the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Tariff Agreement, thus entitling it to CPTPP tariff treatment beginning Jan. 14, 2019.
  • CBSA initiates normal value and export price review for OCTG, seamless casing. The Canada Border Services Agency on Jan. 9 initiated a normal value and export price review to update the normal values and export prices applicable to certain oil country tubular goods and certain seamless casing exported to Canada from China by Shandong Molong Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd.
  • Product Recall: Stanley Black & Decker Canada Corp. recalls DEWALT DWD110 and DWD112 variable speed reversing drills manufactured in the United States, for electric shock hazard.
