The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of Feb. 6 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Modernization of Canada-Chile FTA. The governments of Canada and Chile agreed to a modernized Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement. The new agreement, which entered into force on Feb. 4, will build on the trade relationship and is designed to stimulate new trade and investment and create more jobs for workers in both countries while fulfilling Canada’s trade diversification strategy. Part of the diversity push is to advance gender equality and encourage women entrepreneurship, a news release from Global Affairs Canada said.
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2019 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
  • Product Recalls: RH recalls metal wrapped coffee tables manufactured in India, for lead exposure hazard; Aurora Cannabis Enterprise Inc. recalls two lots of Aurora cannabis products manufactured in Canada, because the outside box may be incorrectly labeled, leading to unexpected effects upon consumption; Gris Souris Accessoires recalls pacifier clips manufactured in Canada, for choking hazard.
