Long Beach Port to Launch Free Cargo Data Tool
The Port of Long Beach will soon launch a data tool to help shippers better track their cargo and reduce container delays, the port said Dec. 16. The tool, which will launch in partnership with technology firm UNCOMN, will provide shippers with a free “cargo visibility service software” that will provide shipping data across all transportation modes, the port said. The soft launch of the tool, called the “Supply Chain Information Highway,” is expected in February.

The port began pursuing the tool after meeting with industry to hear about their most pressing port and data concerns. The “overwhelming response” from industry, the port said, was to “offer access to a platform that securely collected, curated and published data across all modes of transportation, and allowed users to analyze the data using their own systems.” Port of Long Beach Executive Director Mario Cordero said the service will “put actionable data into the hands of supply chain participants, to enable them to make better plans and decisions.”
