UK Sanctions 3 Russian Airlines
The U.K. sanctioned three Russian airlines under its Russia sanctions regime in response to the invasion of Ukraine. Per a May 19 notice from the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, JSC Rossiya Airlines, JSC Ural Airlines and PJSC Aeroflot will be subject to an asset freeze. OFSI also removed wrong information from the sanctions listings of Garantex Europe OU and Kamaz under the Russia sanctions list.

In an accompanying news release, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said the new sanctions will prevent the airlines from selling their "unused, lucrative landing slots at UK airports," which would cut off Russia from an estimated $62.5 million.
As long as Russian President Vladimir "Putin continues his barbarous assault on Ukraine, we will continue to target the Russian economy," Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said. "We’ve already closed our airspace to Russian airlines. Today we’re making sure they can’t cash in their lucrative landing slots at our airports. Every economic sanction reinforces our clear message to Putin -- we will not stop until Ukraine prevails."
