UK Trade Minister Visiting Multiple US States, Signs MOU With South Carolina
U.K. Minister for Trade Policy Greg Hands is traveling across the U.S. to meet with various state officials on boosting trade ties at the state level, the Department for International Trade announced Dec. 7. During the trip, Hands will sign the U.K.'s third memorandum of understanding with a U.S. state to increase trade and investment.

The tour begins Dec. 7 in South Carolina, including the MOU signing, then moves to California and Utah, during which Hands will meet with "senior representatives from both political parties, including state governors, to explore opportunities for enhanced trade." The trade minister hopes to sign an agreement with Utah early next year, the DIT said.
The South Carolina MOU, which comes following accords with Indiana and North Carolina, focuses on sectors in which both parties have a shared expertise, including automotive and life sciences. The agreement addresses state-specific trade barriers, promotes trade missions from the U.K. to South Carolina, and looks to create commercial and academic links in the previously listed sectors.
