In Response to Supply Chain Complaint, Amazon Says It ‘Respects Human Rights’
Amazon is “committed to ensuring” its products “are produced in a way that respects human rights,” a company spokesperson said April 25 in response to a complaint submitted this week under Germany’s new supply chain law. “We engage with suppliers that are committed to these same principles and have clear requirements outlined for suppliers in our Supply Chain Standards,” the spokesperson emailed.

Amazon’s comments came after three organizations filed a complaint under the recently enacted German Supply Chain Act, saying Amazon, Ikea and Tom Tailor aren’t meeting certain human rights due diligence requirements (see 2304240051). The organizations said the three companies haven’t yet signed the Bangladesh Accord, a legally binding agreement between global brands and trade unions designed to improve conditions in the Bangladeshi garment industry.
