Turkey’s Trade Ban on Israel Presents EAR Risks, BIS Says

U.S. companies doing business in Turkey should be “alert” about possible violations of U.S. antiboycott laws after Turkey announced a ban on trade with Israel earlier this month (see 2405030020), the Bureau of Industry and Security said.

U.S. people and entities are “reminded” that the Export Administration Regulations prohibit actions that may support “an unsanctioned foreign boycott maintained by a country against a country friendly to the United States,” BIS said. The agency also reminded companies that they must report to BIS any boycott-related requests they receive.

“U.S. companies operating in [Turkey], in particular, are cautioned to be alert to their receipt of any requests to refrain from importing or exporting goods to or from Israel or to provide certification that the goods are not of Israeli origin or do not contain Israeli-origin components or materials,” BIS said.
