USTR Estimates 5,000 Section 301 Exclusion Requests Will Be Filed

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative is publishing a request for comments on the administrative burden of applying for Section 301 exclusions for manufacturing equipment. The comments will be due by July 30.

The agency told the Office of Management and Budget that it would like authorization to receive exclusion requests for three years; it also estimated it will receive 5,000 requests for exclusions along with 1,000 responses either supporting or opposing those requests. It also estimated that the federal government will need an hour to evaluate each request, and that the salary and benefits for employees and contractors to do that work will cost about $813,000.
