Marking Bill on West Bank Goods Passes House

A bill that would only allow goods made in Palestinian-administered parts of the West Bank to be labeled as originating in the West Bank, and would require that goods made in Israeli settlements to be labeled as Israeli passed the House of Representatives 231-189 late Sept. 18.

This is the current policy, since a rule took effect during the Trump administration, but if this bill were to become law, it wouldn't be possible for a future administration to return to the Obama-era policy of labeling all goods east of the Green Line as coming from the West Bank.

Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., who sponsored the bill, said this is critical because it would make it easier for pro-Palestinian activists to boycott Israeli goods manufactured in settlement areas if they were identified as coming from the West Bank.

"I am pleased that this critical legislation has passed the House, further strengthening the bond between our two nations and standing firm against efforts to delegitimize Israel," she said.
