Chinese Trade Groups Call for Caution Around New US Chip Controls

Chinese trade associations are urging domestic firms to be careful when buying U.S. semiconductors and semiconductor equipment in light of the new set of export controls released by the Bureau of Industry and Security this week (see 2412020016).

The China Semiconductor Industry Association, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the Internet Society of China and the China Association of Communication Enterprises each released statements saying that they opposed the new measures and expressing concern about the risks stemming from purchases from the U.S., Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported Dec. 4.

The China Semiconductor Industry Association specifically said "Chinese industries have to exercise caution when procuring chips from the United States," according to Xinhua, while car manufacturers said "trust and confidence in procuring chip products from American companies are being shaken in the Chinese automotive industry."

The Internet Society of China called on domestic companies to "expand cooperation with chip companies from other countries and regions, and actively utilize chips produced by both domestic and foreign firms in China."
