Meeks to Reintroduce Sudan Sanctions Bill
House Foreign Affairs Committee ranking member Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., said Jan. 7 that he plans to reintroduce a bill to require additional sanctions against those committing or enabling atrocities in Sudan, systematically blocking humanitarian assistance to the war-torn country, or violating the UN arms embargo on Sudan’s Darfur region.

Meeks previously introduced the U.S. Engagement in Sudanese Peace Act in early December near the end of the last Congress (see 2412040050).
Also on Jan. 7, Meeks praised the new Sudan-related sanctions announced by the Biden administration (see 2501070024), saying they “demonstrate that the United States is taking action to hold perpetrators and enablers of genocide accountable.”
