DOJ Seizes Miami Condos Leased by Sanctioned Russian
DOJ successfully seized two luxury Miami condominiums with ties to Viktor Perevalov, a Russian national who was sanctioned in 2018 after his construction company helped build a highway in the Russia-occupied Crimea region, the agency announced Jan. 7. Perevalov allegedly used a Miami real estate agent to lease the properties, which DOJ said are worth a combined $1.8 million (see 2402230084).

The agency said Perevalov used the real estate agent to transfer ownership of the homes to a limited liability company, which helped to “obfuscate Perevalov’s interest in the properties.” After the ownership was transferred, the two properties continued to be leased, generating revenue that was used to “maintain” the properties for Perevalov. DOJ said this violated the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
DOJ first filed the civil forfeiture complaint for the two condominiums in February 2024.
