Senator Renews Bill to Sanction China’s Theft of Trade Secrets
Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah, reintroduced a bill Jan. 30 that would sanction Chinese individuals and entities that engage in a pattern of intellectual property theft from the U.S.

Curtis cited an FBI description of China as the “world’s principal infringer of intellectual property.” He said businesses in his home state have been among the victims of China's IP theft, and his bill would pressure China to change its behavior.
The Combatting China’s Pilfering of Intellectual Property Act, or CCP IP Act, was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, of which Curtis is a member. He introduced similar legislation in March 2024, when he was a House member (see 2403120078).
