Senate Funding Bill Has Smaller Budget Hike for BIS Than House Version
The Senate Appropriations Committee voted 19-10 July 17 to approve an FY 2026 Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill that would provide $211 million for the Bureau of Industry and Security, up $20 million or 10.5% from the FY 2025 enacted level but well below the 59% increase the agency was seeking.

The committee advanced the bill after resolving an FBI-related issue that stalled action on the legislation last week (see 2507100053). The bill now heads to the full Senate for its consideration.
The House version, which a House Appropriations subcommittee approved July 15, fully funds the Trump administration’s request of $303 million for BIS, which is up $112 million from the FY 2025 enacted amount (see 2507150089). The agency wants to use most of the requested increase to hire additional compliance and enforcement employees (see 2506120073).
