Trump Says He Spoke About Trade With Putin
President Donald Trump posted on social media that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a long, "very productive" phone call on Oct. 16. In addition to talking about the ceasefire in Gaza and the first lady's efforts to get Ukrainian children held in Russia or Russia-occupied Ukraine back to their parents in free Ukraine, "we also spent a great deal of time talking about Trade between Russia and the United States when the War with Ukraine is over," he wrote.

Trump said he and Putin will meet in Budapest "to see if we can bring this 'inglorious' War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end," but didn't give a timeline for that meeting.
"I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation," Trump wrote.
Later in the day, Trump was asked what he thought about Senate Majority Leader John Thune's comment that it's time to move forward on a bill that would sanction Russian officials and give the president the option to put tariffs of up to 500% on products from countries purchasing Russian oil. Trump said, "We'll see what happens," and said he'd be talking to Thune about the call. He suggested the call may have been so productive that it leads to peace.
