Senate Panel Backs Bill to Study Chinese Foreign Investment in US
The Senate Commerce Committee approved a bill Oct. 21 that would direct the Commerce Department to lead a review of challenges posed by Chinese foreign investment in the U.S. (see 2508010044).

The review also would look at the effect of other countries’ protectionist policies on U.S. technology firms. The committee rejected several amendments from Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., including one that would have required Commerce to study the impact on foreign investment of what he called the Trump administration's “erratic” tariff policies.
The bill, the Global Investment in American Jobs Act, now heads to the full Senate for its consideration. The House approved a companion measure in June.
