Beijing Calls on UK to Reverse Russia-Related Sanctions on Chinese Firms

China's Ministry of Commerce this week urged the U.K. to reverse its recent sanctions against Chinese companies for supplying electronic parts to Russia's defense sector (see 2510160021), saying it "firmly opposes" the restrictions.

Beijing has "consistently and strictly controlled the export of dual-use items in accordance with laws and regulations," a ministry spokesperson said Oct. 27, according to an unofficial translation. "Disregarding China's representations and the positive momentum of China-UK economic and trade relations, the UK insists on designating Chinese companies, which has a negative impact on China-UK economic and trade relations," the spokesperson said, adding that the U.K. should "immediately correct its erroneous actions and lift the sanctions on the relevant Chinese entities."
