Bill Would Sanction Chinese Officials for Abusing Religious Groups
Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., introduced a bill Oct. 27 that calls for imposing sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act against Chinese officials who violate religious freedom.

The Combatting the Persecution of Religious Groups in China Act would “strengthen America’s response to combat the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Christians and other religious minorities,” Budd's press release said. China uses detention, forced sterilization, torture, slave labor and other tools to restrict religious freedom, it said.
The legislation was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., is introducing a companion bill in the House.
