Beef COOL Bill Introduced in House

Reps. Ryan Zinke, R-Mont., and Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., introduced a bill this week to require country of origin labeling (COOL) for beef, so that cattle must be both raised and processed in the U.S. to be labeled "Product of USA."

"If it’s marketed as American beef, it should be born, raised, and processed here at home," Zinke said.

The last time the U.S. restricted COOL in this way 10 years ago, Canada and Mexico challenged the law at the World Trade Organization, won the case, and Congress repealed the law to avoid retaliation.
