AMS Revises Brix Allowances Related to Pasteurized Orange Juice

USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service has revised the limits for Grade B Brix allowances for pasteurized orange juice, according to a Federal Register notice. The revisions, effective Nov. 18, will be made to the U.S. standards for grades of orange juice and will reference the FDA's Standards of Identity for pasteurized orange juice.

The FDA had proposed amending the standard of identity for pasteurized orange juice in August (see 2508050010). The Brix measurement indicates the sugar content of a liquid.

AMS said it bases its Brix allowances for pasteurized orange juice on the FDA's standards of identity for orange juice.
