House Dems Introduce Bill to End IEEPA Tariffs on 40 Asian Countries

Rep. Jill Tokuda, D-Hawaii, introduced a bill that would eliminate reciprocal tariffs on 40 countries, including Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Thailand and others in Asia.

She announced the introduction Nov. 24. "At a time when our Indo-Pacific partners face growing intimidation and coercion from the Chinese Communist Party, the United States cannot afford to send mixed signals. Slapping our closest partners with tariffs while they face down growing Chinese aggression is backwards, counterproductive, and dangerous, and hurts American businesses and consumers," Tokuda said in the press release. She is a member of the House Select Committee on China. The bill is co-sponsored by six other House Democrats.
