Lawmaker Reintroduces Bill to Impose Sanctions for Climate Harm

Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, reintroduced a bill Nov. 20 that would authorize the president to sanction foreign individuals and companies that are most responsible for exacerbating climate change and deforestation.

The Targeting Environmental and Climate Recklessness Act, which Escobar previously introduced in the last Congress (see 2411140050), was referred to the House Foreign Affairs, Judiciary, Financial Services, Oversight and Government Reform, and Ways and Means committees.

Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., has announced plans to reintroduce the Senate companion bill.
