USTR Seeking Comments on USMCA Effects on Auto Industry

In a Federal Register notice to be published Dec. 5, the administration asked whether producers "demonstrate compliance with the automotive rules of origin," particularly with regional value content and labor value content requirements, steel and aluminum purchase requirements and the use of alternative staging regimes. The notice also asked if the rules of origin for automobiles are "effective and relevant" for the modern automotive industry.
Comments, which can be submitted at https://comments.ustr.gov/s/, docket USTR-2025-0006, are due by Jan. 7.
