Senate Passes Sanctions Bill Aimed at Foreign Cyber Scammers

The Senate approved a bill late Dec. 8 that would allow the president to use International Emergency Economic Powers Act sanctions against transnational criminal organizations that conduct large-scale cyber scams targeting Americans (see 2510010059).

The Scam Compound Accountability and Mobilization Act, or Scam Act, which was passed under unanimous consent rules, now heads to the House for its consideration. The Senate's action came less than two months after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee endorsed the legislation (see 2510220035).
