Bill Introduced to Create Critical Minerals Position at USTR

Rep. Tim Moore, R-N.C., introduced a bill last week to create a chief critical minerals negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. He was joined by three other Republicans.

Moore said in a press release that the U.S. is too dependent on adversaries for the minerals needed for the energy grid, military equipment and other technologies.

The holder of the new position would aim to negotiate trade agreements focused on securing stable and fair mineral supply chains, and the USTR would have to report annually to Congress on U.S. responses to its supply chain vulnerabilities in these areas.
