China Vows Retaliation If USTR Sets Section 301 Tariffs on Semiconductors
China will take “corresponding measures” if the U.S. “continues down the wrong path” by imposing Section 301 tariffs on semiconductors, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said during a regular press conference Dec. 24 in Beijing.

“We urge the U.S. to correct its wrongdoings at once, act according to the important common understandings reached between the Chinese and U.S. presidents, uphold the principles of equality, respect and mutual benefit, resolve each other’s concerns through dialogue, properly manage differences, and keep China-U.S. relations on a steady, sound and sustainable track,” Lin said, in response to a reporter's question, according to a translated transcript of the gathering.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative had announced the previous day that the U.S. would impose additional Section 301 tariffs on semiconductors from China in response to the country’s non-market practices to develop its semiconductor industry, though the tariffs aren’t set to begin until June 2027 (see 2512230004).
